ABOUT

Whether as an emotional outlet or as a mindmap, I have always used art as a means of understanding what is going on around me. As a result, every piece becomes a deeply personal reflection of what I see, feel, and think.

This started when I was young. Though I have no formal training, I come from a family where artistic expression was enthusiastically encouraged. I was given the space to create, and those creations were always treated with respect - even when I was young, and the creations were little more than disproportionate stick figures.

When it came time for me to decide what I wanted to study, I decided to deviate from art and turn to Archaeology and Anthropology. This satisfied my want to understand, but offered too few opportunities to reflect.

After having completed both a bachelor’s and a master’s without a clear plan for the future, I came across a screenprinting course at the local cultural center. They taught me that screen printing can be intensely physical and volatile when it comes to precision, but also intensely rewarding. It grew into a small but persistent obsession, and led to the creation of Art by Rosaida.

The themes that stand central to my work also stand central to me. They explore the importance of family, friends, culture, and history - subjects I could spend eternity thinking about. People almost always take the main stage, and their simple poses are juxtaposed by complicated backgrounds.
